Meet Katy - sea logistics graduate

What did your programme involve?

My first year in Liverpool focused on Seafreight operations whilst handling SFT exports, LCL exports and imports based at a customer site. I then spent 8 months working in our Heathrow Air logistics site overseeing GSK Sea logistics operations. This was great to work directly with the freight and warehouse operations handling the containers. I then finished my programme working with the National Sea logistics systems and Process team in Birmingham focusing on nearshoring operational tasks to our service centre in Belgrade.

Tell us about the professional qualification linked to your programme?

During my programme I completed my Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Level 5 diploma. This allowed me to expand my knowledge in various topics such as supply chain management, management in logistics and transport and international business.

Where are you now?

I currently work in our Dartford Sea logistics branch where I am a National Sea logistics systems and Processes manager. I focus on UK Seafreight systems development, implementation and upgrades within our 8 Sea logistics branches within the UK. On a day to day basis this includes working with our export and import teams to conduct process mapping and analysis, change management, solution design and training.

What advice would you give future graduates?

Don’t be scared to ask questions. “A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.” (Bruce Lee)
