Meet Holly - HR graduate
What attracted you to a HR Programme in Logistics?
“
I was attracted to the HR programme at Kuehne+Nagel for a number of reasons. Firstly, the ability to complete my CIPD qualification while on the job was a massive selling point. In addition, logistics is a growing industry experiencing lots of changes/challenges, which is exiting to be a part of. This graduate scheme also involves rotational placements around the business allowing me to meet lots of different people, learn new skills and explore the UK.
How would you describe the training opportunities?
“
At Kuehne+Nagel I have had the chance to learn many new skills through my professional qualification, graduate workshops and other internal training courses available on our learning platform (Learning @ Kuehne + Nagel). In addition, I have attended legal training with our solicitors, external occupational health training and had the opportunity to sign up to other courses such as excel and finance.
What does a typical week involve?
“
My role at Kuehne+Nagel involves strategic Business Partnering with managers to ensure that Business and HR objectives are aligned. This involves working closely with the employee life cycle from helping to attract/retain colleagues by updating and implementing our policies to getting new talent on-board through interviews and assessment days. In addition, I assist line managers with employee relations such as disciplinaries/absence management and look at proactive ways to deal with problems.
What advice would you give future graduates?
“
Don’t be scared of making mistakes – you’ll soon learn from them and you’re fully supported by your manager and team. Pick up the phone, it’s much easier to communicate and build relationships this way rather than emails. Finally, share your ideas and ask lots of questions.
